How we met…
We met when we were both 13 years old, the summer before freshman year of high school in a pre-requisite math class. We ended up having a few more classes together throughout the next couple years but didn’t really get to know each other until the summer before our senior year when we began to hangout outside of school. We dated for about 6 months before going our separate ways. I went to college and he joined the military. We remained in contact every so often to catch up and to see what the other was up to. It wasn’t until about 4 years later that we decided to hangout again and have become inseparable ever since.
How he asked…
We talked about getting married and knew we were the right ones for each other for quite some time. I knew it was just a matter of time. Planning a big trip with his family to Greece definitely got me thinking but he did not give many hints so I did not know if it was going to happen there for sure. He was going to leave on deployment shortly after the trip was over so I thought if it was going to happen before he left, it would most likely be on this trip. One of the top places in Greece that I wanted to see this time around was Zakynthos. An island that has pretty well known cliff ledge with the most beautiful view I have ever seen. Soooo, I thought if it was going to happen on the trip he would most likely do it there since he knew how excited I was about seeing that view. After a week of exploring other parts of Greece we were now on our way to Zakynthos. In the back of my mind I figured that if it was going to happen on this trip that he would most likely tell his family and that they would probably start acting suspicious. However, none of his family members knew much about the view really or what it was like. No one seemed to think much of it or acted out of the ordinary in any sort. This made me completely throw away the thought that it could happen there. The morning of, Dimitri asked me what he should wear (which I should have taken as such a hint because he never does). When we got to the view point, it was absolutely breathtaking and I was so excited to take a million photos and explore the area. After about an hour of pictures and exploring we were heading back up when Dimitri said he found a good picture spot that he wanted to have his brother take one of us at. He handed his phone to him and said “can you take one of us”, his brother grinned so big that my stomach dropped. Now I knew something was definitely going on. While we were standing there smiling, I could hear Dimitri next to me breathing abnormally hard. At that point I had a pretty good feeling about what was happening when he then turned me around and kneeled and said “Aubrey will you marry me?”. And the rest is history 🙂
The proposal was exactly one year ago today. We are getting married in just a few months and I’m so excited to share all of those details with you!
Hope you have a great weekend!
